 MICR is an abbreviation for 'Magnetic Ink Character Recognition'.  MICR is a numeric 9 digit code to identify the location of the bank branch. Through MICR Code is a numeric code,  a bank-branch participating in the ECS Credit scheme is uniquely identifies. Reserve Bank of India assigns each branch of a bank a unique MICR code, This code helps the RBI to identify the bank branch and expedite the clearing process.

Usually, MICR Code allotted to a bank branch is printed on the cheques issued by bank branches. The MICR code consists of 9 Characters, First 3 characters represent the city, Next 3 characters represent the bank last 3 character denotes the branch identity

IFSC

IFSC is an acronym of the Indian Financial System Code. It is basically a unique alphanumeric 11 Characters code required for online fund transfer. RBI assigns a unique IFSC to each bank branch which takes part in the basic electronic systems such as. RTGS, NEFT, etc.
